Data Protection

equensWorldline offers a wide range of services with regard to payments and cards in Europe. To support these services, equensWorldline processes personal data of customers, suppliers, business partners and employees by means of a growing network of offices in several countries.

The careful and confidential handling of personal data is crucial to the core competencies of equensWorldline. Maximum safety and highest quality in the provision of services with data protection are part of its corporate values. Trans-European data processing, in particular by means of increasing networking of information and communication systems, is subject to the national law of each country of origin as well as of the receiving country. Although the national data protection laws are legally based on the principles of the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24.10.1995 “on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data”, form and content varies currently per country. This Directive will be repealed by the EU Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27.04.2016 “on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data”, came into force on 25.05.2016 and will start to apply as from 25.05.2018. Unlike Directives, this Regulation will have general and direct applicability and will be in its entirety a binding legal act within the EU. Because of its direct applicability this Regulation does not need to be transposed into national law by the EU Member States.
